The new Fortuner has ditched the previous engines for more powerful units that are claimed to deliver improved performance. Replacing the 3.0 litre diesel powertrain, Fortuner gets the new 2.8 litre, DOHC engine with four cylinders that makes 174.5bhp at 3400rpm and 420Nm of torque between 1600 to 2400rpm. Powering the petrol variants is the 2.7 litre, four cylinder in-line mill good for 164bhp at 5200rpm and 245Nm at 4000rpm. Coming to the transmission options, the diesel motor is available with a choice of 6-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission. Petrol engine is linked to a five-speed manual and six-speed automatic unit with paddle shift and shift-lock. The 2WD drive train is standard and there is also an option for a 4WD system on select diesel variants.
